Hi Friend!
It’s September and spooky season is around the corner! Also, we’re in the middle of Hispanic/Latine-x Heritage Month (I have recs for you!). On a side note my book series turned ONE! In this issue I’ll touch on making friends as an adult, Latine-x Heritage Month, book birthday, & a fun giveaway! I promise to get to the point on these things to not make this lengthy! Phew!
Celebrations!
This year the ¡123 BAILA! board book series turned one! The three books teach primary concepts (manners, number counting, & instruments-sounds) while combining dance: salsa, cumbia, and merengue 💃🏽. Baby’s favorite is 123 Merengue.
More celebration: It’s Hispanic/Latine-x Heritage Month! I amplify Latinx book picks all year long so I invite you to my socials to check out all the book recs throughout the years! I partnered with Bookshop this month to give you all 15% off select titles. Use code LHM24 on all these books (linked).
Side note and realness: I’m not that excited about heritage month this year…
It’s hard when you put a lot of work into building content but the algorithm changes and/or things go unnoticed. It’s also a lot of work to promote during this month (even though I do it all year). I recommend looking through all my links/previous posts/website for ways to amplify Latine creators after this month is over. Also, if you’re new to all things books, I invite you to check out more books by Latine creators (Here’s a free database)! We’re here and present.
P.S. If you answered no on the poll, it’s time to audit your reading. Here are 24 book accounts (linked) you should follow for your next book pic (Board book-Adult books).
AVENTURAS EN ESL is a reader-supported publication for all. If you’d like to support it, please forward it to a friend, buy me a coffee, or shop my book lists below. Your support is so greatly appreciated!
P.S. There’s also a free virtual book festival going on now! Check out the next live event on Oct 4 and the recordings on Youtube! There are story times for kids, craft exercises, publishing chisme, illustrator draw-offs and more! Check out the Latinx Kidlit Book Festival on Youtube for all the replays! 🎉
Making Friends as an Adult
It’s hard. Ever since I met my husband, we’ve moved every 2 years and it’s always an adjustment to restart and try to make friends again and again. Now as a mom, it’s even harder. Here are some things that help: If you’re a mom, the peanut app connects you with other moms for playdates. Online friends are friends too; try a zoom coffee chat! A recent post I did was sharing 10 fun facts and see who has things in common with me …and I made new friends. Check it out:
